“Sharing this first milestone for SteelCraft Garden Grove with the people who’ve placed so much passion, commitment, and enthusiasm gives the City an amazing feeling that this is the start of something very special,” said Mayor Steve Jones. “We’ve been re:imagining our downtown area for almost five years and SteelCraft is a huge part of creating that brand identity we’re looking for.”

Last June, the Garden Grove City Council unanimously approved a proposal prepared by Long Beach-based partners, Howard CDM and SteelCraft, to bring the successful SteelCraft concept to Downtown Garden Grove. The deal, finalized in just 60 days, will bring 10 unique craft food and beverage tenants to the community. The family and dog-friendly outdoor urban eatery is slated to open Fall of 2018.

SteelCraft’s core values of restoration, the celebration of craft and community engagement aligns well with the City of Garden Grove’s Re:Imagine initiative which focuses on transforming the downtown and Civic Center area. The campaign promotes the use of public spaces while encouraging an active lifestyle by biking and walking.

Garden Grove Community and Economic Development Director, Lisa Kim, who spearheaded the initial effort to bring SteelCraft to the City of Garden Grove said: “Downtown Garden Grove has become a key player to our City’s economic vitality, particularly with the arrival of SteelCraft and other soon-to-come projects.”

SteelCraft Garden Grove is expected to create 85-150 new jobs and generate at least $85k annually to the City in property and sales tax revenues. The development will be built with 21 repurposed shipping containers and will include five food tenants, craft beer, wine, coffee and two dessert options plus a second story seating component.

“The City’s Office of Economic Development is building on a strong business development initiative of promoting small business growth and job creation. We are thrilled that 10 SteelCraft tenants will soon call Garden Grove home,” Lisa Kim added.

Earlier this year at the Garden Grove State of the City address, Mayor Steve Jones revealed several of the tenants joining SteelCraft Garden Grove. Tenants include: Beachwood Brewing Co., Dark Horse Coffee Roasters, The Nest, Renegade Taco, The Chick ‘N Shack, Urban Pie, Honey & Butter and Cauldron Ice Cream.

At the Groundbreaking Ceremony, SteelCraft founder Kim Gros, also had the honor of announcing for the first time the burger tenant joining the lineup. Hockey Hall of Famer Teemu Selanne and his business partner Kevin Pratt, who are also co-owners of Selanne Steak Tavern in Laguna Beach, will bring a new gourmet burger and hot dog concept to Garden Grove called “Teemu Selanne Presents The Penalty Box.” Selanne and Pratt were in attendance for the announcement.

“While looking at the crowd, I found myself overwhelmed with emotions—especially gratitude—for the incredible family of vendors joining us at SteelCraft Garden Grove and the diligent staff of the City of Garden Grove who have worked countless hours to make this project a reality,” said Gros.

Garden Grove native and Honey & Butter founder Leanne Pietrasinski said, “It was a plethora of feelings for the H&B team to be there at day zero. Most importantly, we all felt very lucky to be a part of a project that’s so fun, to be surrounded by neighbors who care about each other, and to be able to come back to my childhood town!”

“Our team is ready to start building,” said Martin Howard.

The 15,000 SF development, over twice the footprint of SteelCraft Long Beach, seats approximately 450 people, with 120 adjacent parking spaces.

“SteelCraft Garden Grove will feature common themes from SteelCraft Long Beach plus elements unique to Garden Grove – a vegetable garden to play on the City’s agriculture history, locked bicycle storage, semi-private event space, a food truck pad, and a dedicated children’s play area to name a few,” Howard continues.

Like Long Beach, SteelCraft Garden Grove will feature street-facing coffee and dessert options and will remain dog, kid, and family-friendly.

With programming such as movie nights and live entertainment, SteelCraft Garden Grove will offer endless opportunities for the community.
